Expanded GO service could be making its way to Barrie.
Minister of Transportation Glen Murray and Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman will announcement Friday at 1 p.m. at the Barrie South station additional GO service to and from Barrie.
There were 1,300 boardings during the rail line to Toronto during its first weekend of service last summer, which was well within the estimations set out by Metrolinx, the parent company of GO Transit.
The summer schedule ran from June to Labour Day weekend from Barrie’s Allandale Waterfront GO Station down to Union Station in Toronto each weekend.
Metrolinx estimated the summer trial cost approximately $250,000.
GO Transit is the province of Ontario’s inter-regional public transit system linking Toronto with the surrounding regions of the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area. GO carries about 57 million passengers a year in an extensive network of train and bus services that spans over 10,000 square kilometres.
