Ward 8 councillor sworn in

Arif Khan, 41, was sworn in Monday as Barrie’s next Ward 8 councillor by Justice of the Peace Brian Norton.

“It’s going to be an interesting time,” Khan said just minutes after being sworn in. “There is a lot of work, but I look forward to it. I will continue to offer my ear as an avenue for the community.”

Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman thanked Khan and all those who ran for the Ward 8 seat.

“It’s always a bold and brave step to seek office,” Lehman said. Khan defeated 10 candidates to win the city byelection, which wrapped up Dec. 3. Khan captured 521 votes, or 32.38% of the ballots cast. The Ward 8 byelection was necessary because of Jennifer Robinson’s Aug. 1 resignation.
